I might have to take a Summer Hiatus from this. There aren’t any new sales this week. I went to a Target today and nothing was discounted. The shelves were full of hang tags, but they all simply read “I’m new!” All of the new Star Wars, Chima, etc sets had these tags. It made the aisle looks like there was a blowout, but in fact nothing was discounted. Then I went to TRU. Nothing was on sale there either with the exception of the TRU exclusives that have been marked down to around MSRP like the Eagle Castle and the Baxter Robot Rampage. Ugh. I bought the Ultra Agents Mission HQ which was still $99.99 thankfully. I used that 20% off coupon from yesterday’s post to get it for $80 plus tax. The cashier said it wasn’t working but I showed him the coupon and he overrode it. I was showing it on my phone rather than printed out. Not sure what the holdup was, but either this guy didn’t care, or the system was acting up and these coupons had been coming in all day.
In other news, I am closely watching the prices of the two new Masterpiece Transformers from TRU to see if I need to jump on any more of them. This might not be your game at all, but as far as Transformers go, these once-per-year items are the top of the line.
TRU has them online and in store (if there are any left). I got 2 of each, one to keep and one to hopefully sell. Last year, they released Soundwave and Acid Storm. Soundwave sold out in a day and jumped from $120 to $180. I sold 3 which paid for my 4th. Acid Storm sat there all year and could still be found on the shelf up to about a month ago. For some reason, I just sold the two copies I had on Amazon a few days ago right after ordering the new ones. So maybe that’s how the cycle works for less popular characters. I have high hopes for Prowl, but the TRU I was in today was sold out of Sunstorm and had 3 Prowls left on the shelf. Just letting you know.
