Your Buying Strategy of the Day: Sunday March 16th, 2014

I’m tired. I haven’t slept since before I wrote yesterday’s blog post.

Anyway, I always seem to complain about how some of the retailers don’t update their websites after midnight on Saturday night. It is usually overshadowed by the fact that the new deals, although not yet promoted or advertised correctly, are great. Today isn’t like that.
ShopKo hasn’t updated but it seems they have everything at full price with no discounts whatsoever.
Toys R Us looks to be continuing their BOGO 50% off on DUPLO, Friends, City, etc.
Kmart and Amazon are just matching other sellers.
Walmart updated its Rollbacks page for the first time in maybe a month. It’s all the same stuff you’ve seen in stores:
http://www.walmart.com/browse/toys/lego/4171_1105635/?_refineresult=true&facet=special_offers%3ARollback&povid=cat1105635-env530384-moduleA102513-lLinkLHNSaveBigNowRollbacks
I’m really considering the OverBorg Attack because I bought one on a whim yesterday in-store and now I want to get more so the part out is better. The problem is they limit you to 5 and I’m torn between a few days shipping for only $3 or free shipping with a 2 week expected arrival. Tell me I’m crazy. $2.97 for shipping is insanely cheap and it is worth getting the sets a week sooner though there is no guarantee when they will get parted out. I don’t know. The tax and shipping is putting the set around 2.3x and I feel my money is better spent elsewhere.
Target added some interesting items to their Price Cut page, but most of them are currently unavailable online:

So let’s look at the two Hobbit sets they have.

79011 Dol Guldur Ambush is $15.19 or $14.43 after RedCard discount, limit 8.
http://www.target.com/p/lego-the-hobbit-dol-guldur-ambush-79011/-/A-14804176#prodSlot=large_1_3
Part out is $34.90 or 2.42x.
Pretty good but the best thing about Target is they allow you up to 8 of a set, most other retailers don’t.

79014 Dol Guldur Battle is $51.99 or $49.39 after RedCard discount, limit 8.
http://www.target.com/p/lego-the-hobbit-dol-guldur-battle-79014/-/A-14804179#prodSlot=large_1_1
Part out is $125.28 or 2.53x.
Seems better, but that’s before applicable tax.
Amazon has this set too for $51.57, limit 3.

They don’t charge tax so you could get 11 of these for (insert PA tax) $52.14 each or 2.4x. If you are alright with that kind of drop, go for it. This is a set that’s been bouncing around the discount pages since it first launched in December.
