Your Buying Strategy of the Day: Thursday December 19th, 2013

Today you’ll be investing in what is to become a very expensive polybag. 30216 Lake-Town Guard has all of the same characteristics of the Mirkwood Elf Guard polybag from last year. Armyable, limited (to one store so far), licensed, and down right cool looking. What the Mirkwood Elf Guard had that this one doesn’t is that the minifigure was exclusive to that bag and no other figures resembled it. This time, the titular guard is the same minifigure that is in the Lake-Town Chase. Keep in mind though that this set is $40-$50 and the bag is only $5. You also only get 1 figure in each of them so this bag is much more desirable to someone who wants that fig. The Mirkwood Elf Army set just came out and the figures are still similar to the Mirkwood Elf Guard, but not identical. This means the Lake-Town Guard has the potential to go up to, but I don’t believe it will go over the price of the Mirkwood Elf Guard.

But why should you be concerned with an old bag you can’t get anymore. History is very important to LEGO investing. There is a limit on the site of 4 per customer: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=28737556&csm=514978891&csc=3125498&csa=522594531&csu=3125500
I don’t know how long they will stay in stock. Just keep in mind that if you spend $100, you get $25 off. You are 1/5th the way there with these bags. And may I recommend the Daily Bugle Showdown as it is at MSRP. I got 4 of them the other day and I just picked up two more in order to justify purchasing these bags. Now 4 may not be many, but you should be able to order as many times as you want.

They are also emerging at TRU locations. If you are lucky enough to find them in-store, do not hesitate to buy every single one of them. It will be worth your while. If you buy 21 of them at a time, you can get the $25 off a maximum amount of times. Essentially getting them for $3.80 each. If you are only able to get a few, I recommend holding them until they are all sold out, or listing them at a high price in your store and waiting until that price becomes the going rate.
