Your Buying Strategy of the Day: Thursday December 5th, 2013

Today’s strategy involves some leftovers. Did you put all of your eggs in one basket when it came to LEGO Shop@Home’s Black Friday weekend deals? I recommended some Speedorz on Saturday and the Mini Modulars on Sunday. Now it’s Thursday and most of the retailers are calling it “Cyber Week.” Hey, why not? Why not give more titles to every day until the end of the year.

What am I talking about…

So 70011 Eagles’ Castle was on Shop@Home for $19.98. I mean, it still is, but it is “Temporarily out of stock. It might come back, but probably not as it is already backordered. This set was my second choice after the Mini Modulars, but I had to go with my #1 choice. The part out value is $54.25 which is atrocious for the $40 price tag at MSRP. Want to hear something really scary? This set, like a lot of sets sadly, is a Toys R Us exclusive. That means that it probably cost $45 regularly there.

Well you know how TRU has uncharacteristically been slashing prices lately? (I could get used to this!!) Well a $45 price tag would make sense considering the set is currently $22.49 on their site. That’s 50% off their price or 44% off MSRP. It’s true, the price is $2.51 higher than it was from LEGO, and you won’t be getting any incentives with this purchase. But as I stated before, this is a TRU exclusive, so nothing is really going to make them discount it unless they are matching a discount from the big dog, TLG. Since LEGO has “sold out” of them, expect TRU to rescind this discount quickly. You can order up to 4 online and either have them shipped to store (I suppose they would just be taken from existing stock) or shipped to your home for free. I do not know about any limitations in-store, but I would assume you can buy as many as you want at any TRU location. If the going gets really rough, you can order 4 online, get them shipped to your house, and then go buy 4 at each of your local TRU locations. It’s a little extra driving, but at least a high quantity of these sets is obtainable.

I don’t see this set going on sale again in the future, not this deep at least. I would recommend picking a bunch up today from TRU either online, in-store, or both. The part out value will be 2.41x the price you pay and that’s nothing to balk at.

Do you have any idea how hard it is for me to find and then discuss these deals EVERY DAY? No, it’s not too much work or too challenging. I’m talking about how hard it is to tell you about them and not go buy them myself! There are so many good deals out there if you know when and where to buy. This daily strategy is a testament to how many deals there are. Please pick and choose which ones work for your budget and your existing LEGO inventory and remember that there will be a new deal here every day!
